I’ve been looking at non-toxic cleaners for what feels like forever. I’m not really a DIY kind of girl. I’m all about ease, but it was important to me to have a pure and natural cleaning solution to heal from my chronic health issues.
You typically run into a few problems with non-toxic cleaners:
- They smell really bad. Y’all already know what brand I’m talking about.
- They’re not effective. I’m left scraping crusty food off of the kitchen counters. Forget about having a shiny sink.
- They are pretty costly. I am a young newlywed who doesn’t have the means to buy all of the things. I need a budget-friendly option to keep my home clean without having to buy new products every month.
Back in January of this year, I stumbled upon Branch Basics. I’ve been using the non-toxic cleaning products for about 7 months now and here is my 100% honest review on Branch Basics.
How It Works
Branch Basics is like the Costco of non-toxic cleaning products.
You basically buy in bulk by purchasing 1 of 2 starter kits. (The only difference is that one comes with an Oxygen Boost product.)
This is why the starting price tag (at $59) may seem like a lot – but you’re getting all-purpose cleaner, bathroom cleaner, hand soap, laundry detergent, glass cleaner AND so much more for that price AND my first kit lasted me 6 MONTHS!!!
If you’re uncomfortable with spending that much on products you haven’t tried yet, you can also purchase a trial kit for $5.00.
Once you receive your starter kit, all of your bottles will be empty (except for the concentrate). On the back of each bottle, there will be a fill line and it will instruct you how much of the bottle to fill with water and how much concentrate you’ll need.
That’s all you’ll need! However, I do like my cleaners to have a “scent”, so I added some lemon essential oil to my all-purpose cleaner. It smells heavenly!
What I Love
So many things. Let’s start with:
1. Branch Basic’s Founders
Have you read up on Branch Basics’ story? Three lovely ladies came together to create Branch Basics because it was PERSONAL to them. They struggled with their health and found freedom on the other side.
This is super important to me as a consumer. It’s not just about being “more natural”. It’s about using products that will enable me to heal and that I can feel good using around my whole family. You can see their passion for wellness in every aspect of their business.
To be honest, I wasn’t entirely sure how to use each of the cleaning products to be most effective. Non-toxic cleaning can be a little bit different than using the mainstream cleaning products we grew up with.
Branch Basics creates several resources and shares how you can use their concentrate not just in what comes with the kit, but even as dog shampoo, dish soap, floor cleaner, etc.
I love learning and getting even more “bang for my buck”!
3. Effectiveness / Durability
The products themselves have been great! They’re odorless, but I like to add essential oils for further anti-microbial properties and a nice scent. And they work as well as any other household cleaner. They last forever and once you run out, you just have to order the concentrate again (rather than an entire kit).
What I Don’t Love
There aren’t many things I don’t love about Branch Basics. If I had to pick one it would be:
The Laundry Detergent
This is the only product that goes REALLY fast. The “loads” are really small. I end up putting 3-4 capfuls of detergent in my laundry. I felt like it was making the concentrate go really fast, so I ended up switching to ECOS Free & Clear laundry detergent.
I don’t really see myself looking for new non-toxic cleaning products anytime soon (minus the laundry detergent).
I love everything about Branch Basics as a company and their products work really well for me. It’s nice to have a base (concentrate) and I can experiment with the essential oils I want to add for additional anti-bacterial properties and scents.
I’ll probably be using Branch Basics for a VERY long time.
What is your favorite non-toxic cleaner? Are you a DIY girl or more of a “just make me something I can buy” girl?
