It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a health update on the blog. Things like job loss, moving, and being in a tough financial spot meant that I wasn’t able to afford going to see the doctors I needed to that could help me move forward with healing.
Thankfully, God has been so good to us in this season of moving to Orlando and providing Sam with a new job. I was able to go to a brand new doctor (in-person… which is amazing!) and get the care I desperately needed to move forward with healing my gut.
You can see how that appointment went here:
The gist: It was 10/10.
It was so nice to see a doctor that listened, knew exactly how to help me, and who had a great balanced approach to everything. I wish I had started my healing journey with him, but I’m mostly just thankful God led me to this particular practice because I’m just a HUGE fan of everyone there.
But I digress.
I basically “learned” (or re-confirmed) that I am very small and malnourished because of how unbalanced my gut is. (Some of the weight loss is also attributed to the fact that I’ve been walking every day.)
Given my medical history and years worth of tests I threw on his desk, he didn’t think heavy metal chelation, detoxing, or “kill” protocols would be wise for me at this time.
His conclusion: Focus on rebuilding and repairing my gut and overall vitamin/mineral levels.
So, here is my new protocol I’m following this month.
The supplements I’m using for this particular protocol are:
→ Just Thrive probiotic: http://bit.ly/2paXyO0
→ Raw Iron: https://amzn.to/2LCi8P8
→ Glutagenics: https://amzn.to/2DYXtR7
→ Gastromend: https://amzn.to/2E1n5Ng
→ Grapefruit Seed Extract: https://amzn.to/356QiCh
→ Multi Plus Patch: http://bit.ly/2RAbkpa
I’ve been using most of these on and off (definitely have my probiotic every day). Taking a supplemental probiotic is a great way to bring some good bacteria to your gut and to help with dysbiosis. I love Just Thrive’s probiotic and have been using it (with improvement in symptoms) since I had SIBO in 2017.
The raw iron has been helpful in bringing my energy back as I’ve struggled with anemia.
Glutagenics is something I’ll probably be taking for the next 6 months – or at least some form of L-Glutamine. This was one thing my doctor was very particular about me being on because of the gut healing benefits of L-Glutamine.
Gastromend has been a God send for those GERD, LPR, and reflux symptoms. The licorice really reduces the symptoms and is a nice addition to the protocol as well.
The Multi Plus Patch is a stick-on patch I wear while I’m sleeping and is the equivalent of a multi-vitamin pill. I love it because it’s one less pill I have to take and it’s SUPER convenient to use (although I wore it too long one day and got a bit of a rash – so if you use it make sure to take it off).
And the Grapefruit Seed Extract is the one ‘kill’ supplement we are using to address my Klebsiella Oxytoca (a bad gut infection that you don’t want to have). I just take a light 1 pill with dinner and call it a day.
How I’m Feeling So Far
I’ve been on this protocol since November 27th, 2019 (the day before Thanksgiving). I was actually feeling somewhat ill before that and the protocol really helped me to enjoy the day (and the meal).
So far, I haven’t noticed a huge change. There has been some improved digestion, but there has also been what I like to call “emotional die off”.
Whenever you start a new protocol, there will likely be side effects. That’s because “bad” bacteria “dies off” inside you and this can cause a ray of emotional or physical symptoms.
I didn’t expect that with this protocol since it is so light – but I was wrong.
I have definitely been struggling emotionally and with some brain fog. Nothing outrageous though. I’m hoping this means it is working!
I’ll do a full update on how the protocol went during my next update, but just wanted to keep you guys in the loop for now.
Let me know in the comments what’s going on with your health. Give me all the updates!
