Marshmallow Root Tea

I probably should have started the gastritis eats series with this recipe because if you have a more severe case of gastritis, I’d first start by making this drink as it’s the easiest thing to get down and is incredibly healing for your gut.

But better late than never I always say! 😉

Anywhooooo… if you’re thinking marshmallow root tea tastes like marshmallows, you are sadly mistaken.

Marshmallow root is an herb that’s been used medicinally for centuries.

It has a large number of different benefits from preventing UTIs to coughs and colds, but one of it’s major health benefits is that it can help lower or prevent heartburn, stomach ulcer symptoms, diarrhea, and constipation.

It does this by forming a protective layer around the digestive tract. It even contains properties that help heal wounds by decreasing inflammation and fighting off bugs.

So, basically, if you’re dealing with any negative digestive issues or inflammation, this is a great herb to have at home!

I like to batch make my marshmallow root tea for a few days, so I don’t have to make it every single day. This usually makes me 4-5 cups of tea for the week. It’s super easy with options to make this even more gut healing. I hope you enjoy!

What You’ll Need

How to Make It

  1. Pour a kettle-full's worth of water into your kettle. Heat on high heat until the water is boiling.

  2. Remove from the heat and add 2-4 tbsp of marshmallow root to the tea. I use this tea steeper so I don't have to strain it later!

  3. Let it sit overnight (I like to add it to the fridge once it cools off).

  4. Pour it into a pitcher or glass jar and enjoy it for the week!

  5. Optional: Add a few tsp of Slippery Elm to the tea if you're trying to fight off gastritis.
